Dry days ahead?

Unless you've had no contact with the British Isles recently, you'll be aware that we've been having truly frightful weather.  So there's no point in my bleating about it - particularly as we've got off relatively lightly here, even if a glance out over our back paddock makes such a statement impossible to believe.  I don't think that any homes are flooded in this part of the world, nor roads closed; and there aren't many parts of the county where on could say that.  Huntingdon and Southwell (all of whose fixtures for the remainder of 2012 have already been abandoned) both have the whole racecourse complex under water, while several courses - including Wetherby, to name but one - have most of the track submerged.  Under the circumstances, it's a cause for rejoicing that high pressure appears likely to move in for a few days, bringing cold but DRY and settled conditions.  Friday is forecast to have a night-time minimum of -3 and daytime high of +4, with clear blue skies, and that really is something to look forward to, notwithstanding the likely hard frost.  More immediately, we have our trip to Lingfield tomorrow to look forward to (early start as our race is at 12.00) so let's hope that Tommy (Platinum Proof) can put up a bold show there.  He's pictured here only two and a half weeks ago, which is remarkable as sunny days this month have not been plentiful.
