Winter's here

I hate to say it as I never like to scare-monger about the weather, but it looks as if we're in for a proper week of winter.  Mind you, there's more than enough scare-mongering about: I caught the weather on the BBC earlier today and, while there a map of the country on the screen showing the anticipated overnight temperatures, the weatherman said, "As you can see, we're in for a bitterly cold night" - which was fine except that the lowest figure on the whole map was minus one, which is not bitterly cold by usual mid-January standards.  However, as you can see, we had a dusting of snow overnight, which was no big deal this morning, and even rather pleasant when the sun was briefly out.

However, it soon clouded over and began snowing again, quite hard, for much of the afternoon, so I think that things could get less convenient.  Conditions were no problem this morning, an epidemic of tractors on the Heath aside, but they'll be dicey in the morning if this snow, having started to thaw early evening, re-freezes. However, we're only going to hover around zero tonight, so that mightn't be a problem - but with an anticipated temperature of minus five tomorrow night, I'd say that we'll having to be exercising a degree of caution when venturing out on Wednesday morning.

Still, I won't be venturing too far away from home.  Fingers crossed we'll be off to Lingfield on Friday, but before then I think my only journey, other than on horseback to the Heath and on foot or bicycle to the High Street, will be to take Camelot to the vet's surgery in the Fordham Road for his castration tomorrow morning.  Poor little mite: I took him along there this morning only for his pre-op examination to reveal that he's a rig (which I'd failed to notice) so the operation will be more intricate and risky (and expensive) than would otherwise be the case.  Still, fingers crossed things will be OK - but tomorrow will be a big day in the life of one particular, and particularly adorable, cat.
