For once things have worked out well. I made one or two entries for each of four horses during the week (we then have Kryptos entered at Newmarket at the weekend) to try to get the right horse on the right ground in this period of volatile weather, and the entries haven't all been wasted. I've failed to find a dry track for Turn Of Phrase (and I didn't even enter her for the possibly suitable race at Windsor next Monday as it's very hard to see that not being very wet again) but I appear to have found a dry track (at Yarmouth tomorrow, although there could be enough rain in the next 18 hours to alter that) for both Dereham and Hidden Pearl, and then I should have found a wet track for Das Kapital (pictured in the second photograph, this morning on Southfields with Jana) at Lingfield the next day.
The icing on the cake is that the race in which that Dereham and Hidden Pearl are running has been divided, so they are in different divisions rather than up against each other, which wouldn't have been entirely satisfactory, notwithstanding that it would have been inevitable. They have very similar ratings, both (I believe) want fast ground, both run over long distances and are the same age. So it is inevitable that on the rare occasions when I can find a race which will suit one of them, then I have found a race which will suit the other. We had this last autumn when they were in the same race at Bath and that was divided, and the same thing has happened again here. So that's good. We just need the horses to run well now!
Things working out? We'll see over the next two days
